Brian Wiebe: Bass

Brian started playing guitar and piano in 1974 and added drums and bass a few years later. By high school he had up to Grade 7 Toronto Conservatory piano and was bassist in original music garage bands, as well as Kelowna Secondary School stage band, jazz combo, and concert band, performing live on local television and CBC radio. He graduated with a District scholarship in Music and received a music minor at Briercrest College where he gained experience as a studio engineer, composer, and touring performer. Brian broadened his musical scope while studying archeology and ancient languages in Jerusalem where he earned a masters degree. During this time, while living in Israel's West Bank, he continued to perform with both Israeli and Palestinian based groups while exploring eastern ethnic music.
In the 90s Brian performed as bassist, drummer, and guitarist, toured North America and Europe and recorded with such notable artists as David Ruis, Andrew Smith, Kevin Proesch, Darin Jarman, The Notorious Heffel Brothers, The Mammals, Norm Strauss, Daniel Powter, Dave Sinclair and Darby Mills.
Since opening his Kelowna recording facility, Solar Nest Arts in 2000, Brian's recordings now represent 19 BC Interior Music Awards artist nominations and 10 awards including such artists as Andrew Smith, The Darylectones, and the Michael Garding Big Band, and Ashleigh Somerville. Internationally, Aboriginal artist Cheryl Bear's 2007 (The Good Road) and 2012 (A'Ba) records received 5 nominations and 3 Aboriginal People's Choice Awards and 5 GMA Covenant Awards nominations and 2 awards. Rhonda Draper was a 2007 Winner of the Governor General's Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History with her CD of Canadian folk songs:"How Canada Came to Be". Janyse Jaud won Best Jazz CD for her original Christmas album 'The Magic of Christmas' at the Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards 2008. In 2008, Janyse was named as a Finalist in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards where she was nominated for Best Song, "Stomp", from her highly praised "The Magic of Think" children's CD. Brian's instrumental collaboration with Graham Ord and Andrew Smith “Chill” was nominated for a Shai Award (Canada's People's Choice Awards) for Instrumental CD of the Year in 2007. Brian's growing genre diversity in sound design was showcased in Amar Chebib's (Salam films) Arabic film "Mishmush" which premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival 2010.
With experience in more than 160 recordings, Brian continues to perform, record, and produce in a broad spectrum of genres as well as applications (CD, DVD, radio, film, theater, education resources, children's music) with a variety of instruments (ney flute, upright, electric, and fretless bass, guitar and keyboard).
